Want to gain weight? Avoid these mistakes

    What's the story

Gaining weight is just as difficult as it is to lose it. And in the process of adding a few extra kilos, many people end up making some common mistakes.

Right from inappropriate food choices to putting a hold on fitness exercises, there are many shortcuts and quick fixes that are unhealthy in the long run.

Steer clear of the following practices.

    #1

    Consuming supplements

Several people fall into the trap of fake marketing strategies that promise "instant" weight gain and end up consuming artificial supplements. Well, don't take that road.

Most weight gain powders, tablets, and pills are not recognized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and lack scientific support concerning their effect on weight.

Instead, you should focus on increasing calories by consuming natural foods.

    #2

    Avoiding workout

The most common myth around weight gain is to avoid daily exercise. Does that work? In short, no!

A lifestyle without a physical workout routine won't just invite obesity but also long-term health issues like high blood pressure problems, diabetes, and breathing issues.

You may gain weight considerably but at the cost of cutting short your life. So quitting exercise is never recommended.

    #3

Skipping meals or eating too much

Another common belief is if you skip your meals (as staying hungry increases weight) or eat too much food, you will meet your weight gain goals. Well, things don't work that way.

This can contribute to unhealthy weight gain and even obesity.

The best way to go about it is to consult a dietician as nutrition plays an important role in weight management.

    #4

    Inconsistency

Anything followed inconsistently can bring you back to square one. Meaning, if you are on a weight gain diet, pursue it religiously without any pauses or breaks.

One setback can bring you down to where you started, which is nothing but a waste of all the efforts you have been making so far.

Additionally, don't expect to gain weight overnight and don't give up.

    #5

    Following someone else's footsteps

Things that worked for one may not necessarily work for you.

Everyone has a different body and therefore different nutritional needs, which is why following someone else's diet plan or advice to gain weight isn't recommended.

For a healthy and safe weight gain process, consult a nutritionist and fitness coach as they can make a personalized meal and exercise plan for you.
