    What's the story

India and England are set to square off in the 2nd ODI at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.

The Cuttack ODI will mark Rohit Sharma's 50th as captain in the format.

Notably, the 37-year-old has become the eighth player to lead India in 50-plus matches in ODI cricket.

The legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni leads the elite list with 200 matches as captain.

    Milestone

    Eighth Indian with this feat

As mentioned, Rohit is the eighth Indian to lead in 50-plus ODIs.

He has joined the likes of Dhoni (200), Mohammad Azharuddin (174), Sourav Ganguly (146), Virat Kohli (95), Rahul Dravid (79), Kapil Dev (74), and Sachin Tendulkar (73) on this elite list.

Notably, Rohit first led the Indian side in a 50-over game back in 2017.

    Stats

Rohit's stats as ODI captain (before Cuttack game)

Before the Cuttack game, Rohit led India to 35 wins in ODI cricket. India have also lost 12 ODIs under his leadership, with one match ending in a tie (NR: 1).

Under Rohit, India won the 2018 ODI Asia Cup after beating Bangladesh in the final.

India also reached the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup final with Rohit at the tandem.

    Batting

Over 2,200 ODI runs as captain

Rohit is one of only seven Indian with over 2,000 runs as captain in ODI cricket.

Before the Cuttack game, he racked up 2,206 runs at an incredible average of 53.80 while leading the side. As many as 20 of fifty-plus scores have come as captain (four tons).

Rohit has a staggering strike-rate of 112.20 in this regard.
