When Yash Dayal dismissed MS Dhoni in IPL 2024
Yash Dayal, the left-arm pacer for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has opened up on his mixed emotions after dismissing Mahendra Singh Dhoni in a crucial 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) match. Despite facing initial criticism upon joining RCB, Dayal's performance was instrumental in helping the team reach the playoffs. The Dhoni dismissal in the virtual knockout game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), however, left him with bittersweet feelings.
Pivotal role in RCB's playoff journey
In the decisive match against the Super Kings, RCB needed to win by 18 runs to secure a playoff spot. The responsibility of bowling the final over fell on Dayal, with CSK requiring 17 runs for a top-four finish. Despite Dhoni hitting a six off his first delivery, Dayal managed to dismiss him on the next ball, effectively securing victory for RCB.
Dayal shares his feelings after dismissing Dhoni
In a conversation with Jatin Sapru on his YouTube channel, Dayal expressed his emotions after dismissing Dhoni. He stated, "I felt bad after dismissing him. Because I don't know or care what people say but the frustration with which he left the ground, it was like you don't know whether he will return or not." This moment marked a significant point in Dayal's IPL journey and highlighted his respect for Dhoni.
Dayal's strategy and confidence during the final over
"With 11 runs needed off 4, I was like why I am even looking at the scoreboard. I shouldn't. I should just focus on my bowling." added Dayal. "Shardul bhai was on strike. Virat bhai said, 'don't give pace, nor bowl right onto his bat'. I told him right now it's like peanut butter falling from top. Anywhere I want to bowl, I will I have so much confidence."
