Presenting highest individual Test scores at MA Chidambaram Stadium
Team India's forthcoming home season is set to commence with a two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, which has been favorable for spinners, will host the series opener, starting September 19. Also known as Chepauk, the iconic stadium has played host to several historic encounters. Have a look at the highest individual scores at this venue in Test cricket.
Virender Sehwag: 319 vs South Africa, 2008
Virender Sehwag remains the only Indian to have scored multiple triple-centuries in Test cricket. The second of his two triple-tons came against South Africa in the 2008 Test match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Sehwag hammered a 304-ball 319 against the likes of Dale Steyn, Makhaya Ntini, Morne Morkel, and Jacques Kallis. Although the match was drawn, Sehwag broke a flurry of records.
Karun Nair: 303* vs England, 2016
Karun Nair is the only other Indian with a triple-century in the game's longest format. He slammed an unbeaten 303 off 381 balls against England in the 2016 Test in Chennai. His knock included 32 fours and 4 sixes. India later won the match by an innings and 75 runs. However, Nair disappeared from the Indian Test setup thereafter.
Sunil Gavaskar: 236* vs West Indies, 1983
This list will be incomplete without the legendary Sunil Gavaskar and his exploits against the West Indies in Test cricket. Gavaskar slammed an unbeaten 236 off 425 balls against the Windies in 1983 in Chennai. He helped India score 451/8d in response to WI's 313 in the first innings. The match was eventually drawn. Notaby, Gavaskar averaged 59.88 at this venue in Tests.
MS Dhoni: 224 vs Australia, 2013
Mahendra Singh Dhoni's love affair with Chepauk dates back to 2008 when he first donned the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) jersey. Dhoni, the former Indian captain, has been Chennai's demigod ever since. His career-best Test knock also came at this venue in 2013 against Australia. Dhoni led India from the front in their eight-wicket win, having smashed a blistering 224 off 265 balls.
