    What's the story

In 2013, India became the second side to win the Champions Trophy twice.

The MS Dhoni-led side defeated hosts England in a rain-curtailed final by five runs at Edgbaston. The 20-over match, which ended emphatically, went down to the wire.

Several young guns, including Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, stamped their authority in the tournament.

Here's how the duo fared in 2013.

    Rohit

    Turning point in Rohit's career

The 2013 Champions Trophy was a turning point in Rohit's career.

Rohit, who now leads India, was hailed for his talent back then. But his inconsistency was under the scanner.

Dhoni promoted Rohit, who earlier batted in the middle order, as an opener in the tournament. The move worked wonders as Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan recorded substantial opening stands.

    Rohit never looked back thereafter.

    Runs

Second-most runs for India in CT 2013

Rohit was India's second-highest run-scorer in the 2013 Champions Trophy, finishing only behind Dhawan (363).

The former racked up 177 runs from five innings at an average of 35.40. His tally included two half-centuries.

India's opening stands in the tournament read 127 vs South Africa, 101 vs West Indies, 58 vs Pakistan, 77 vs Sri Lanka, and 19 vs England.

    Kohli

    Kohli averaged over 58

Kohli, who had already emerged as India's mainstay top-order batter by then, finished just behind Rohit in terms of runs.

He slammed 176 runs at an incredible average of 58.66. His tally included a half-century.

Kohli batted with a remarkable strike-rate of 95.65 by the standards those days.

His 43-run knock in the low-scoring final against England was pivotal to India's success.

    Information

    Legacy of Rohit, Kohli

India's batting line-up has centered around Rohit and Kohli ever since their historic 2013 campaign. While Rohit went on to become arguably the greatest white-ball opener, Kohli shattered multiple records while guiding India to momentous wins.
