    What's the story

India dominated the 2023 ODI World Cup, reaching the final unbeaten. However, they lost in the finale.

The tournament saw several record-breaking performances, including historic moments in the semi-finals.

India crushed New Zealand by 70 runs, fueled by centuries from Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli, along with Mohammed Shami's stunning 7/57.

We revisit Iyer's ODI World Cup ton against NZ in the semi-finals.

    Ton

    Iyer's 105-run knock propels India to 397/4

Batting first, India lost Rohit Sharma (ninth over) before Kohli and Shubman Gill's 93-run stand took them to 164/1, with Gill (80*) retiring hurt.

Kohli (117) and Iyer then added 73 runs before Kohli fell in the 44th over.

Meanwhile, Iyer's explosive 105 off 70, featuring four fours and a record eight sixes, combined with KL Rahul's 39, powered India to a massive 397/4.

    Crucial 100

Iyer's back-to-back World Cup ton powers India's massive total

Coming off an unbeaten 128 against the Netherlands, Iyer carried his form into the semis, smashing his second consecutive WC ton.

He built two crucial partnerships, helping India post a massive total.

The 30-year-old reached his third WC fifty in 35 balls off Mitchell Santner (37th over).

His century came on his 67th ball (48th over) with a single off Tim Southee's bowling.

    Records

Iyer scripts records with second consecutive WC hundred

With his ton, Iyer broke plenty of records.

Iyer's 67-ball century is the fastest in WC knockout matches, surpassing Adam Gilchrist's 72-ball ton (2007 final).

He became the third Indian to score consecutive WC centuries, joining Rohit (three in 2019) and Rahul Dravid (two in 1999).

Iyer's eight sixes surpassed Sourav Ganguly's seven (1999) for most sixes by an Indian in a WC innings.

    More records

Records by the batter in the 2023 World Cup

The Mumbai-born batter amassed 530 runs in 11 innings, finishing as the seventh-highest run-scorer with an average of 66.25 and a strike rate of 113.24, as per ESPNcricinfo.

He became the first middle-order batter to surpass 500 runs in a single edition, breaking Scott Styris's 2007 record of 499.

Iyer also smashed two centuries, three fifties, and reached 4,000 ODI runs during the tournament.
