    What's the story

NVIDIA has turned its G-Assist project, which was first unveiled as an April Fools's joke in 2017, into a fully functional AI assistant.

The innovative tool is now available for RTX graphics processing unit (GPU) owners via the NVIDIA app.

It aims to enhance gameplay by providing real-time assistance and insights.

The G-Assist project can optimize game and system settings, measure frame rates, and even control lighting on connected devices.

    Features

    G-Assist: Your personal gaming assistant

G-Assist functions as an AI assistant that answers voice or text prompts. You can ask questions like "How does DLSS Frame Generation work?" and get detailed answers just like you would from ChatGPT or Gemini.

The assistant can even optimize games for better performance or image quality.

Plus, it can control lighting on supported devices from brands like Logitech, Corsair, MSI, and Nanoleaf.

    Performance enhancement

    Comprehensive PC analysis and optimization

G-Assist can perform a detailed analysis of your entire PC. It can detect if a game has a frame rate limiter or if your GPU's performance is being capped.

The assistant even offers tips to improve overall performance, like overclocking the GPU or lowering in-game resolutions to hit a desired frame rate.

It can even detect if refresh rates are not being maximized on a display.

    Accessibility

    G-Assist: Technical requirements and availability

The AI assistant runs on a local small language model, which takes up nearly 10GB of space for its functions and voice capabilities.

It works with a range of RTX 30-, 40-, and 50-series desktop GPUs, but requires a card with a minimum of 12GB of VRAM.

G-Assist comes as part of an update to the NVIDIA app, which also brings new DLSS override options and display scaling and color settings adjustments.
