    Mumbai: Versova man loses Rs. 1.45L in cyber credit-card fraud

    What's the story

    Tahir Sheikh of Mumbai's Versova was duped of Rs. 1.45L in a cyber-fraud when his public sector bank credit-card was used on Indian and global portals by cyber-criminals.

    Cyber police said Sheikh received 30 messages from bank on 22 August saying Rs. 89,410 was withdrawn.

    On 21 August, Rs. 55,590 was withdrawn, but the bank didn't inform him.

    Man calls woman "chammak challo"; gets imprisoned

    Thane Magistrate Court convicted a Ghodbunder Road resident for insulting a woman using the word "chammak challo" in 2009.

    He was found guilty under IPC Section-509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).

    However, he was awarded a simple sentence of imprisonment till rising of the court (until court proceedings for the day are over) and fined Re. 1.

    Three Mumbai primary teachers among 350 national teacher awardees

    Three primary school teachers from Mumbai would receive National Teachers Awards from President Ram Nath Kovind on the occasion of Teacher's Day in Delhi.

    Trupti Hatiskar of Prabhadevi BMC Marathi School No. 2, Nagorao Tayade of Ghatkopar's Municipal Upper Primary Marathi School No. 2, and Kankana Chandra of Anushaktinagar's Atomic Energy Central School-2 would be honored for their contribution to education on 5 September.

    "Re. 1 Clinics" at Central Railway stations to shut down

    Only three months after being kicked off, Mumbai's "Re.1 Clinics" at eight Central Railway stations, including Dadar and Ghatkopar, are being shut down after becoming the "victims" of railway officials' "infighting."

    They were opened to provide cost-effective healthcare, golden hour treatment and subsidized medicines to passengers and accident victims for free.

    The private operator would shut down these clinics by 6 September.

    Man dupes diamond seller of Rs. 1.33cr-worth diamonds; gets arrested

    Mumbai's DB Marg Police arrested a man named Pinal Shah for allegedly cheating a diamond shop owner of Rs. 1.33 crore.

    Shah and his accomplice Deven Zaveri duped the complainant on the pretext of selling Rs. 1.33cr-worth diamonds abroad for a much higher price.

    Zaveri is reportedly not in India, police are trying to trace him; they suspect he is in New Zealand.

    Mumbai University "result mess": Students lose a year at Harvard

    University of Mumbai's result delay has cost two final-year Government Law College LLB students dearly.

    They were to join LLM at Harvard Law School, but they will lose a year now.

    They applied for MU's confidential results, but Harvard deferred their admissions until next year as the breakup of their total marks didn't reach its admission office before the extended deadline, 14 August.

    Mumbai: Man severely injured in fight over "buying cigarette"

    Mumbai's Shivaji Nagar police arrested a man, Abibullah, for assaulting 24-year-old Saddam Sayeed Khan in a fight that took place over buying a cigarette.

    Abibullah and his two friends earlier told Khan's brother to buy them a cigarette near a dispensary.

    Later, Khan approached the trio to seek an explanation for their action that led to a fight in which he was injured.
