    Mumbai: Maratha Mandir cancels DDLJ show for the first time

    What's the story

    Actor Shah Rukh Khan's fans were disappointed after Mumbai's iconic Maratha Mandir, which has been running Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) for over 20 years now, cancelled film's show for the first time.

    It instead chose to screen the trailer of Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Haseena Parkar, a biopic on gangster Dawood Ibrahim's sister- also called as 'Queen of Mumbai'.

    Yuva Sena wants defamation suit filed against radio channel

    Two Yuva Sena leaders Amey Ghole and Samadhan Sarvankar have written to BMC commissioner to file a Rs. 500-crore defamation suit against Radio channel 93.5 Red FM and its host Malishka for a viral video mocking BMC.

    According to the leaders, the video not only maligns BMC's image but also unfairly blames the civic body for issues that do not fall in its jurisdiction.

    Govt denies visa to doctor wanting to do US research

    Central health ministry denied giving visa to Mumbai-based Dr. Noothi to go to US, who is a research scholar, citing an acute shortage of doctors in India.

    Dr. Noothi is willing to surrender his medical license to pursue his research work.

    "US government considers me a scientist, while Indian treats me as a doctor even though I have not practised since graduation," he said.

    Man sentenced to 7 years in jail for raping minor

    26-year-old man and his mother were sentenced to seven years and one year in jail respectively by sessions court for allegedly kidnapping and raping a 13-year-old girl in 2013.

    The man befriended the girl and raped her under pthe retext of marriage. Girl's parents had turned down marriage proposal by man's mother.

    They both then kidnapped the girl, who was traced and brought back.

    Police

    Mumbai: Traffic cops get body cameras to record violations

    As part of pilot project in Dadar and Worli, traffic personnel now wear body cameras in order to prevent motorists from getting into an altercation with police as well as to keep tabs on behaviour of cops.

    Traffic department will be bringing in cameras for cops across Mumbai.

    "Body cameras will bring more transparency; allegations of corruption can be verified," an official said.

    WR, CR demand 2,800 CCTV cameras to monitor cleanliness

    As part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan campaign, Western and Central Railways have sent a proposal to railway ministry seeking to monitor cleanliness by installing CCTV cameras on the stations' premises.

    The officials said that pilot projects are currently going on at Churchgate and Mumbai Central stations.

    For this purpose, additional 2,800 cameras are required on both suburban railway sections.

    Electric taxis, autorickshaws to ply on Mumbai's streets soon

    In order to reduce noise and air pollution, Maharashtra government gave its assent to use battery-powered electric vehicles as black-and-yellow taxis and autorickshaws in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

    "Permit-holders can bring electric taxis or autorickshaws on city roads in MMR," as per rules to de-freeze permits issued by government.

    With this, Maharashtra will become India's first state to introduce electric vehicles as app-based taxis.
