Goa CM Manohar Parrikar returns after treatment in US

    What's the story

Goa CM Manohar Parrikar landed back in India today after undergoing treatment for more than three months in the US.

He will leave from Mumbai to Goa today itself, and will be at Panaji tomorrow, the CMO said.

Parrikar was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer in March. After he left for the US, a cabinet advisory committee was looking after the state's affairs.

    Health

Parrikar has been sick since February

Parrikar was admitted to Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital for pancreatitis on February 14. He was discharged on February 22.

The same day, Parrikar, who also holds finance, returned to Goa to present the budget.

Days later, he was admitted to Goa Medical College and Hospital for dehydration, from where he was shifted to Lilavati, and finally to the US.

    Meantime

In his absence, a three-member committee was supervising administration

In the meantime, the three-member cabinet advisory committee comprising Sudin Dhavalikar (Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party), Francis D'Souza (BJP) and Vijai Sardesai (Goa Forward Party) was handling the state's affairs.

Parrikar was monitoring from the US.

The tenure of the committee ends June 30.

Congress had alleged that administration had collapsed during the absence of the CM, who also holds home, personnel and general administration portfolios.

    Status

Parrikar all set to chair cabinet meeting a day later

Reports say Parrikar is set to chair a cabinet meeting on June 15 to fix the dates for the monsoon session of the assembly.

All ministers have apparently been asked to attend the meeting.

However, two are not in Goa right now; Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar is hospitalized in Mumbai after a brain stroke, while Urban Development Minister Francis D'Souza is vacationing in Portugal.
