Kangana had to sell ₹32cr Mumbai office for this reason

    What's the story

Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut recently sold her Mumbai bungalow, which also served as the office for her production house Manikarnika Films, for ₹32 crore.

The property is located in Pali Hill, Bandra, a prime area in Mumbai.

In an interview with News18, the actor revealed the reason behind this decision.

This move comes after the release of her film Emergency was delayed.

    Financial decision

'Properties are for times of crisis,' says Ranaut

Ranaut explained that she had invested her personal property in the film Emergency, which has not been released yet.

She said, "Naturally, my film was supposed to release. I put all my personal property on it. Now that it's not released, so anyway, that's what properties are for - for times of crisis."

    Property history

Ranaut's bungalow was partially demolished in 2020

Ranaut purchased the Pali Hill property for ₹20 crore in 2017 and established her Manikarnika Films office there in 2019.

The building came under scrutiny in 2020 when parts of it were demolished by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) due to alleged structural violations.

Despite asserting her right to compensation for the demolition, Ranaut eventually decided against it as it would involve taxpayers' money.

    Film controversy

Ranaut's film 'Emergency' faces release delay

Emergency, a biographical political thriller co-produced by Manikarnika Films and Zee Studios, was slated for release on September 6. However, the film's release has been postponed due to pending certification from the censor board.

The movie, which explores the life of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi during the 1975-1977 Emergency period, has been mired in controversy and faced backlash from several Sikh groups.

    Legal proceedings

Zee Entertainment seeks Bombay HC intervention for film's release

Zee Entertainment Enterprises, a co-producer of Emergency, has approached the Bombay High Court to facilitate the film's release and obtain a censor certificate.

The court, however, stated that it cannot direct the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to issue the certificate as it would contravene a Madhya Pradesh High Court order.

The next hearing in this case is scheduled for Thursday, September 19.
