'Many conspiracies': Kangana reveals difficulties during 'Emergency' casting

Kangana Ranaut, who is preparing for her directorial project Emergency, recently opened up about the challenges she faced during the film's production.
In a conversation with ETimes, she revealed that casting was a significant hurdle due to the limited availability of quality actors and their commitments to other projects.
"When my script was ready, and it came time to cast, I started getting nervous because we have very few good actors and these few actors are very busy," she said.
Difficulties
Ranaut was 'nervous' about assembling the team
The Fashion actor said, "When we started the film in August 2022, getting dates from these actors was incredibly difficult due to the OTT boom."
"I started to get really nervous, thinking, 'I've spent a whole year on the script; what will happen if I can't get the right cast?' But luckily, everything worked out, and I believe it was divine intervention."
Casting success
Ranaut overcame casting challenges and found multiple good actors
She also disclosed that there were attempts to sabotage her project.
"But there were many conspiracies against me. The actors I approached were called and told not to work with me."
"Casting directors and DOP's refused to work with me. Despite that, the amount of respect, love, and professionalism I received from those who worked with me was overwhelming."
Despite her initial apprehensions, Ranaut successfully assembled a star-studded cast including Satish Kaushik, Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, and Milind Soman.
Production hurdles
'Emergency' production faced COVID-19 disruptions, Assam floods
The production of Emergency was not without its share of challenges. The team had to navigate COVID-19 disruptions and severe flooding in Assam, where some scenes were filmed.
"We faced a lot of problems with the international crew, especially with COVID-19," Ranaut admitted.
Despite these obstacles, she and her team remained committed to maintaining the film's quality throughout its production process.
The movie releases on September 6.
