18-year-old Delhi University student brutally thrashed in road-rage incident
An 18-year-old student of Delhi University was brutally thrashed and left bleeding in Northwest Delhi's Bharat Nagar area on May 18, after he had an altercation with a woman. The victim, identified as Harshit alias Vasu who is enrolled in a correspondence course, was returning from the market when he was attacked. The police have arrested two accused, Khem Singh and his nephew Vishal.
Harshit's scooter brushes woman's car, she starts yelling
Harshit was returning home when he saw a car parked in the middle of Ravidas lane. When he attempted to get past it, his scooter brushed against the four-wheeler. The woman driving the car started yelling. Soon, her husband Khem Singh came out of their house. The husband scolded and slapped Harshit. The argument snowballed further when Singh's nephew Vishal also thrashed Harshit.
DCP Northwest explains sequence of events
"Harshit stopped his scooty and then tried to move from front side. The lady then uttered some words and Harshit also replied. Khem Singh and Vishal interfered and asked Harshit to behave properly with her. Following which scuffle broke out," Aslam Khan, DCP, Northwest said. Harshit somehow called his uncle. He was rushed to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital and later, referred to LNJP hospital.
Police register case under relevant sections of IPC, arrest accused
The police filed a case under IPC Sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), against Singh and Vishal. Though they have been arrested, Harshit's family is unhappy with the exclusion of stricter IPC sections in the FIR. The police are examining CCTV footage to find further details.
