    What's the story

Delhi's top two colleges, St Stephen's and Lady Shri Ram College may not figure in this year's national ranking system of colleges as they have refused to share details regarding their faculty, one of the mandatory measures to assess the colleges' performance.

The National Institution Ranking Framework (NIRF) will be announced by the government in April this year.

    The colleges

After last year's ranking, many colleges decided to participate

After the ranking was released last year, LSR college ranked sixth. Following that, St Stephen's, Hindu College, Sri Venkateswara College, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) decided to participate this year.

However, St Stephen's and LSR College may not figure in the rankings, as they do not want to share details on their faculty.

    Details

Around 4,734 institutes participate in 2018's ranking

According to a report, at least 4,734 institutes are participating in the ranking system this year.

The HRD ministry prepares the ranking list on the basis of a wide range of parameters that include, "teaching and learning resources, quality of research, and outcomes that judge the employability of graduates."

The ranking categories are - overall, engineering, management, architecture, law, medical, pharmacy, and general colleges.
