CBSE to conduct Board exams in March, not February
What's the story
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to hold its Class 10 and 12 exams in March, after Holi.
It had earlier planned to conduct the exams in February to give teachers more time to evaluate mark-sheets and ensure quality checking.
However, now it's reportedly trying to conduct the Board exams in shorter duration to ensure the examiners have the needed time.
Reason
CBSE wanted to give teachers more time to evaluate answer-sheets
CBSE, often under fire for reports of faulty evaluation, wanted to advance exam date to February to give teachers enough time and space for quality error-free checking.
The Board exams usually last for 45-50 days and end ahead of summer vacation when most teachers go on leave. This forces the Board to get ad-hoc and contractual staff to evaluate mark-sheets, making room for errors.

1.1 million students to write CBSE Class-12 exams in 2018
Over 18,000 schools across India are affiliated to the CBSE, the country's largest school board.
About 1.1 million students - 6,38,865 boys and 4,60,026 girls - have registered for the CBSE Class 12 exam this year, a 2.82% increase from last year's 1.067 million. As many as 3,502 centres and 10,678 schools have registered for the Class 12 exams.

CBSE makes Class 10 board exams compulsory once again
Meanwhile, the CBSE has made Class 10 board exams compulsory once again from 2018. It had briefly introduced an internal school-assessment method, Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE), for grading Class 10 students.
