    What's the story

Trouble seems to be mounting for arrested Postcard News co-founder Mahesh Vikram Hegde.

Actor Prakash Raj, known for movies like Singham, Wanted, and Iruvar, has lodged a complaint at Cubbon Park police station accusing PostCard News of publishing malicious articles about him.

He said the articles were written after he criticized PM Narendra Modi for his silence over journalist Gauri Lankesh's murder.

Articles became very personal in nature, says the actor

"The articles became very personal in nature, making derogatory statements. I was unable to file a complaint as their website gave no clarity on who was authoring these articles. Now that one of the co-founders has been arrested, there is some hope," said Raj.

Cops meanwhile said a case has been registered under IT act against the editor, owner and author of those articles.

    Why arrest happened

Hegde arrested for Jain monk attack false news

The founder of Postcard News was arrested last Thursday for allegedly spreading fake news about a Jain monk being attacked by a Muslim youth.

Mahesh Vikram Hegde was picked up from the Central Majestic area of Bengaluru by the Central Crime Branch and was sent to 14 days of police-custody.

The FIR was filed under Section 66 of IT act (dishonest or fraudulent information).

    Information

This is the third case against Postcard News

This is the third case against Postcard News. The first was registered in November 2017 at Sanjayanagar police station, Bengaluru. Cops said the complaint that time was over defamation of historical personalities. Hegde's arrest has led to a debate on the prevalence of fake news.
