    What's the story

On Tuesday, serial rapist Shivarama Reddy from Bengaluru was injured in a run-in with the police; he was shot at by one of the officers for trying to attack them.

In the last one week, Reddy sexually assaulted two women staying in PG accomodations, his target areas.

Currently, there are 16 cases against him.

    Crime

Bengaluru, a focal point of fake fashion products

In the last few months, Bengaluru Police have forced down a bogus Louis Vuitton store, gas station and soap making unit.

Since the beginning of 2017, the fraud and misappropriation wing of the Central Crime Branch has registered 23 cases under the copyright act.

The plagiarists are being hunted down by the city police on the basis of genuine complaints as well as tip-offs.

    KGF

Government envisages new city in KGF

In order to decongest Bengaluru, the State Government is contemplating the development of a new city in Kolar Gold Fields (KGF).

R Roshan Baig, Urban Development Minister said 11,000 acres of abandoned mining land in KGF will be used to develop this city.

To meet drinking water needs, desalination plants may be set up and sea water will be brought in through Yettinahole project-pipelines.

    State Government revises TDR policy

The Karnataka State Government formed new rules for the transfer of developmental rights (TDR) by withdrawing their previous policy.

In accordance with the new rules, TDRs will be issued by the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) and not BBMP.

As a developmental right, land owners will now be compensated with two times the area of land surrendered (for developmental activities) instead of monetary compensation.

    Forest Fires

Forest Minister hints at foul play in forest fires

According to Forest Minister B Ramanath Rai, Karnataka's recent forest fires have destroyed nearly 250 acres of forests.

Rai said there are reasons indicating foul play, but he would wait for the CID report to confirm whether the calamities were man-made or natural.

The Forest Department is suspicious of the mining lobby and other forces regarding the same.

    Environment

    BBMP adjourns road-widening project

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) has put on hold the widening of Jayamahal Road until the project is cleared by all concerning authorities.

The other major reason for doing so is because the civic body wants to avoid a protest similar to the one against the construction of the steel flyover.

Cutting 112 trees would be required for this project.
