Ram Jethmalani: Mamata-led third front should oust PM Modi

    What's the story

Celebrated lawyer Ram Jethmalani today called for the formation of a third front led by fire-brand WB CM Mamata Banerjee to oust PM Narendra Modi in the next LS 2019 elections.

These statements come when Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao is flying down to Kolkata for a meeting with Mamata to discuss the formation of a third front.

Here's more on what Jethmalani said.

    Criticism

'Both Congress and BJP have cheated people'

Modi supporter-turned-critic Jethmalani said TMC chief Mamata has the ability to become the PM.

He added that both BJP and Congress have been "deliberately apathetic" to recovering black money from "Germany and other countries."

He said, "They have committed a joint crime of cheating people. Therefore, a third front of honest leaders is needed."

He also criticized FM Arun Jaitley's policy on black money.

    Significance

Meanwhile, what does the formation of a third front imply?

Third Front's formation indicates the increasing marginalization of Congress in the Opposition. Reportedly, Mamata doesn't have any intention of tying up with Congress President Rahul Gandhi before the parliamentary elections.

Instead, she has spoken to like-minded leaders including AAP's Arvind Kejriwal, DMK's MK Stalin and Rao for a federal coalition of regional parties so that each part of India is represented at Centre.
