PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday dubbed the BJP's win over the Left in Tripura a "victory of ideology" and said the party needs to work hard to maintain its winning electoral streak, according to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar.

Addressing the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting, PM Modi spoke about BJP's impressive performance in the three northeast states of Tripura, Nagaland, and Meghalaya.

Tripura had been yearning for change: PM Modi

According to party leaders at the BJP meeting, PM Modi referred to comments from some critics that Tripura was a small state with only two Lok Sabha seats and underlined the significance of the BJP's win.

PM Modi said the state had long been yearning for change and people embraced it by ousting the Left which was in power for over 25 years.

    Victory

"Tripura was considered a bastion of Marxism for the last 25 years. This is an ideological victory," BJP leaders quoted PM Modi as saying.

Left's politics was underpinned by violence and hate; people have rejected it everywhere. It's finished across the world and is on the verge of oblivion in India as it is now in power only in Kerala, Kumar said quoting Modi.

    Development

For development, all states are equal: PM Modi

All three states are very important, the Prime Minister said, referring to Tripura, Meghalaya, and Nagaland, adding that the central government will give priority to their development.

For development, all states are equal, PM Modi said.

An alliance of several parties, including the BJP, was sworn in Meghalaya on Tuesday and Modi extended his greetings to new Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
