    What's the story

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Washington, DC on Thursday for a two-day visit on the invitation of US President Donald Trump.

This is his first visit to the United States since President Trump took office for a second term.

On his arrival, he was warmly received by India's Ambassador to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra and other officials at the airport.

During his visit, PM Modi will stay at Blair House, aka "the world's most exclusive hotel."

    Historic residence

Blair House: The world's most exclusive hotel

Situated right across the White House at 1651 Pennsylvania Avenue, the official guest house for visiting dignitaries covers 70,000 square feet.

It features four interlinked townhouses with 119 rooms, including 14 guest bedrooms and 35 bathrooms.

Blair House is famous for its luxurious accommodations that echo American history and craftsmanship.

The interiors are decorated with antique furniture, fine art, and historical artifacts.

Over the years, it has hosted many global dignitaries, including former Indian PMs Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi.

    History

According to its website, Blair House, which was built in 1824, became a political hub in Washington, DC, as soon as the Blair family moved in in 1837.

It is named after Francis Preston Blair, a prominent newspaper editor and influential advisor to President Andrew Jackson who purchased the house in 1836 and used it as his residence.

PM Modi's visit aims to strengthen India-US ties

Ahead of PM Modi's arrival, Blair House was bedecked with the Indian flag to mark the significance of this diplomatic visit.

The Indian diaspora welcomed him with great enthusiasm outside Blair House with chants of 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and 'Modi Modi.'

His visit is expected to bolster India-US ties across sectors such as technology, trade, defense, energy, and supply chain resilience.

    Strategic talks

PM Modi's discussions on energy sourcing and clean nuclear technology

Before arriving in Washington, PM Modi visited France where he held talks with French President Emmanuel Macron and met US Vice President JD Vance.

They discussed mutual interests including energy sourcing and investment in clean nuclear technology.

In a statement before leaving India, PM Modi had expressed enthusiasm about building on the successes of US-India cooperation from Trump's first term.
