US delegation in North-Korea to prepare for summit with Kim

    What's the story

US President Donald Trump said a US team was in North Korea to prepare for the summit between him and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, a meeting he abruptly canceled on Thursday.

The meeting is scheduled to take place on June 12.

Trump shared this information on Twitter where he also said North Korea will become a great economic and financial nation one day.

Trump's tweet about officials reaching North Korea to plan summit

Our United States team has arrived in North Korea to make arrangements for the Summit between Kim Jong Un and myself. I truly believe North Korea has brilliant potential and will be a great economic and financial Nation one day. Kim Jong Un agrees with me on this. It will happen!

    The talks

Talks between the two nations to continue tomorrow

The American delegation is headed by Sung Kim, a former US ambassador to South Korea.

He was to meet with North Korea's Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui, whose fiery "nuclear-to-nuclear showdown" statement triggered Trump to cancel Singapore summit.

Reportedly, the talks are expected to continue tomorrow at Tongilgak, a North Korean building in demilitarized zone where Kim met Moon on Saturday.

    Test Missiles

North Korea launched test missiles capable of reaching US

Last year, Trump and Kim were threatening war after Pyongyang tested its most powerful nuclear bomb to date and launched test missiles it said were capable of reaching the United States.

Tensions were calmed after Kim extended an olive branch to Seoul, sparking a sudden detente that led to Trump agreeing to hold direct talks with the North Korean leader.
