Suryakumar Yadav becomes third batter with this feat for MI

Mumbai Indians (MI) star and stand-in captain, Suryakumar Yadav has achieved a major milestone in his side's 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) opener, against Chennai Super Kings, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
With his 14th run in the game, SKY became the third player to accomplish 3,000 runs for Mumbai Indians in the IPL.

Playing his 97th IPL game for MI, SKY has raced past 3,000 runs at a fine average of 35-plus, as per ESPNcricinfo.
His strike rate of 148-plus is the highest among MI batters with at least 1,000 runs. The tally includes 23 fifties besides two tons.
Only Rohit Sharma (5,400-plus) and Kieron Pollard (3,412) have mustered more runs for the franchise in the cash-rich league.
Notably, Rohit is the only other MI batter with multiple IPL tons.
Stellar season

In terms of runs, SKY enjoyed his best IPL season in 2023. He started poorly but gained momentum as the tournament progressed.
SKY finished on a high as MI bowed out following a defeat to Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2.
He amassed 605 runs at 46.54 (50s: 5, 100: 1). Notably, Sachin Tendulkar (618 in 2010) is the only other MI batter with 600-plus runs in a season.

Yadav is just among the three players in IPL history to score multiple centuries as a non-opener.
The list also features the likes of AB de Villiers and Sanju Samson, both of whom have three such centuries to their name.
While both de Villiers and Samson scored their tons while batting at number three, Yadav scored a ton against Sunrisers Hyderabad while batting at four last year.
His ton against GT came while batting at three in 2023.
