    What's the story

Indian vice-captain Shubman Gill has has climbed to the No. 1 spot in the latest ICC ODI batting rankings.

His recent outings in the ODI series against England have been nothing short of sensational.

Gill notched up three back-to-back 50-plus scores, including a century, and played a pivotal role in India's 3-0 series win.

Gill, who has displaced Pakistan's Babar Azam at the top, will now enter the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy as the top-ranked ODI batter.

    Stellar performance

Gill's impressive run tally in ODI series

Gill's phenomenal form has raised hopes for his performance in the upcoming Champions Trophy.

He finished the England series as the highest run-scorer with 259 runs.

This includes 87 and 60 in India's first two wins over England, and a stunning 112 in his final match before the mega tournament.

The Indian star now owns 796 rating points in the ODI rankings while Babar has dropped to second place with 773 points.

    Record breaker

Gill's milestone century and unique achievement

Gill scored his seventh ODI century in his 50th match, a major career milestone.

He also became the first player to score centuries across all three international formats at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, the world's largest cricket stadium.

Meanwhile, India will open their Champions Trophy campaign in Dubai against Bangladesh on February 20.

This will be Gill's maiden Champions Trophy campaign, and he is expected to carry his brilliant form to Dubai.

The former (761) continues to stay at No. 3 while Kohli (727) remains stable at No. 6.

SAfter scoring 59, 44, and 78 runs respectively in the three matches against England, Shreyas Iyer has jumped one spot.

He is now the No. 9 ranked ODI batter with a total of 679 rating points.
