    What's the story

India beat West Indies in the first Test match in Rajkot to gain a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

He overtook Harbhajan Singh for the most 4-for in Tests for India.

Ashwin now has 42 four-wicket hauls in Tests and is only behind Anil Kumble (66).

Ashwin, once again, showed that he is the most lethal spinner in the sub-continent.

    Record

Kuldeep Yadav was superb in the second innings as he picked a five-for.

The wrist-spinner became only the second chinaman bowler after Paul Adams to take 5 wickets in a Test innings in India.

This was also his best figures in a Test innings.

Kuldeep joined Ajantha Mendis and Imran Tahir to get to five-wicket hauls in all three formats of the game.

    WI

Powell, Chase two performers in this Test for WI

Powell was the lone hero for West Indies in their second innings.

He smashed a defiant 83, as the innings was laced with eight fours and four sixes.

This was Powell's 6th Test fifty.

He is now just 35 away from 2,000 runs in Test cricket.

In the first innings, Roston Chase showed some character with 53 runs under his name.

    Stats

Stat attack: India notch a host of records

Mohammed Shami, who picked 2/22 in the first innings, got to 50 wickets in Asia in Tests.

Indian batsmen hit a total of 11 sixes in their innings and that is the second highest by the team in Tests.
