    What's the story

Indian captain Rohit Sharma shut his critics with an incredible century in the 2nd ODI against England at the Barabati Stadium, Cuttack.

Rohit, whose batting form had been under the scanner, gave India a counter-attacking start in their run-chase of 305 runs.

The Indian skipper added a century-plus stand with Shubman Gill before completing his 32nd ODI ton.

    Rohit was dismissed for 119.

    Knock

    An audacious ton from Rohit

Rohit defended a few balls initially after taking strike. However, he didn't let the bowlers settle and exhibited his endearing strokes.

Rohit was back to his attacking self, having made the most of fielding restrictions. While Gill held one end, Rohit's exploits took India to 77/0 after 10 overs.

The Indian skipper continued his counter-attack and raced to his century off just 76 balls.

    Sixes

    Second-most sixes in ODIs

Rohit's 119 was laced with 12 fours and 7 sixes. He now owns the second-most sixes in ODI history (338).

Before the match, Rohit was tied with Chris Gayle at 331 sixes. However, he went past Gayle's record when he hit a six off Gus Atkinson.

Rohit is only behind Pakistan's Shahid Afridi, who owns the most sixes (351 maximums in 398 innings).

    Runs

    Fourth-most ODI runs among Indians

Rohit has raced to 10,987 runs in ODIs at 49.26.

He surpassed the legendary Rahul Dravid in terms of most ODI runs among Indian batters. The latter slammed 10,889 runs for India, Asia, and ICC in his illustrious career.

Rohit is now only behind Sachin Tendulkar (18,426), Virat Kohli (13,911), and Sourav Ganguly (11,363).

    Information

    2nd-fastest ODI hundred for Rohit

Rohit reached his 100 from 76 balls in the 2nd ODI. This is now his 2nd-fastest ton (by balls). Rohit's fastest ton came against Afghanistan in 2023. He took 63 balls to reach the landmark.

    Do you know?

    3rd ODI ton versus England

Rohit slammed his 3rd ODI century versus England. In 22 matches, he owns 845 runs at an average of 49.70. In addition to three tons, he has 7 fifties against the Three Lions, as per ESPNcricinfo.

    Century

Rohit races to 49 international tons

As mentioned, Rohit now has 32 centuries in ODI cricket, the third-most in ODIs after Tendulkar (49) and Kohli (50).

The Indian skipper has overall smacked 49 international tons, equaling Australia's David Warner.

Only two other Indians have more than 50 centuries across formats - Tendulkar (100) and Kohli (81).

    Information

    The return of Rohit Sharma!

Rohit has finally found his Midas touch after a string of low scores. This was his first international century in nearly a year (103 against England, Dharamsala Test). Rohit hit a new low after failing in the latest Test season.
