    What's the story

Indian opening batsman Rohit Sharma has been in terrific touch with the bat in 2018. He has plundered runs at will, across the globe

After amassing 317 runs in the Asia Cup 2018, the Mumbaikar smashed a scintillating ton against West Indies in the first ODI.

Rohit scripted many records alongside skipper Virat Kohli.

And now he stands in line to break Tendulkar's record.

    Maximums

Rohit can surpass Sachin in terms of ODI sixes

In Guwahati in the first ODI, Rohit smashed 152* and also added 246 runs with Kohli for the second wicket.

He hit 15 fours and 8 sixes in the match, as India won the tie by eight wickets.

Sharma got his tally to 194 sixes in ODIs and is currently the third highest six-hitter amongst Indian batsmen.

He could now equal Sachin (195 sixes).

    ODIs

Here're top 5 players with the most number of sixes

Sharma currently occupies the eight spot in the list of batsmen, who have hit the maximum number of sixes in ODI cricket.

Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi leads the show with 351 sixes.

He is followed by Gayle (275) and former Sri Lankan legend Jayasuriya (270).

MS Dhoni is fourth on the list with 217 strikes.

AB de Villiers (204) fills the fifth spot.

    Sixes

Rohit has McCullum and AB in sight as well

If Rohit gets going in the second ODI against West Indies, he could not only go past Sachin but some other legends in the mix as well.

He needs six to equal former New Zealand batsman Baz (200) and a total of 10 to equal AB as well.

In Guwahati, he surpassed former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly (190).

    Data

A look at Rohit's stats in ODIs

In 189 ODIs, Rohit has amassed a total of 7,217 runs. He has 20 hundreds and 36 fifties to his name. Rohit has been in prime form this year. The vice-captain has already scored 793 runs in 15 matches at an average of 72.09.
