    What's the story

Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar calls for ending open defecation in an open letter published in Hindustan Times.

Tendulkar said poor sanitation was the reason one of every five kids in India suffered from diarrhoea, and he was glad the government took steps for cleanliness through 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan'.

As he applauded the initiative in letter, he said there is still a long way to go.

Sachin Tendulkar wrote, "When Prime Minister Modi launched the Mission in 2014, its goal was an incredibly ambitious one. Ending the practice of open defecation by October 2019 is a target that required not only political will, but a nationwide 'jan andolan' movement."
