    What's the story

Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan's wicketkeeper-batter, has set a new record in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC).

During the first Test against Bangladesh at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, he scored an unbeaten 171 in the first innings and followed it up with a half-century (51) in the second.

His efforts, however, went in vain as Bangladesh won the contest by 10 wickets.

    Here are his stats.

    Record breaker

Rizwan sets new WTC record for most runs

Rizwan's performance in the Rawalpindi Test earned him 222 runs.

As per ESPNcricinfo, he surpassed India's Rishabh Pant's previous record of most runs in a single Test match during the WTC.

Pant scored 203 runs against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham in 2022.

Rizwan's teammate Sarfaraz Ahmed, who scored 196 runs against New Zealand in 2023, holds the third spot on this list.

    Match highlights

    Rizwan's performance in Pakistan's defeat

Despite Pakistan's batting collapse on Day 5, Rizwan remained resilient.

He was the last man out after scoring a gritty 51 off 80 balls with six boundaries.

However, his efforts couldn't prevent Pakistan from suffering their first-ever Test defeat to Bangladesh by 10 wickets.

Meanwhile, Rizwan's unbeaten 171 is now recognized as the third-highest score by a wicketkeeper-batter in a losing cause in Test cricket history.

    Stats

Rizwan races past 1,800 Test runs

Playing his 31st match, Rizwan has raced to 1,838 runs at 44.82.

In addition to three tons, he has clobbered 10 fifties in the format.

As per ESPNcricinfo, in four matches versus Bangladesh, Rizwan averages 96.66, having scored 290 runs.

Meanwhile, his 171* from the first innings is now the highest-individual score by a wicketkeeper-batter in WTC history.
