    What's the story

Lakshya Sen, a rising star in Indian badminton, has expressed his ambition to emulate the success of cricket legend Virat Kohli in his sport.

This revelation came after Sen's impressive performance at the Paris Olympics 2024, where he narrowly missed winning a bronze medal.

Despite this setback, he received widespread acclaim for defeating several higher-ranked opponents during the tournament.

    Career highlights

Sen's journey and achievements in badminton

At just 23, Sen has already made significant strides in his career.

His achievements include winning multiple tournaments, finishing as the runner-up in the All England Open 2022, and being part of the Indian team that clinched gold at the prestigious Thomas Cup in 2022.

He also won an individual Commonwealth Gold medal in Hangzhou, further cementing his status as a promising talent in Indian badminton.

Sen's response to social media comparisons with Kohli

Sen recently responded to social media memes comparing him with Kohli, expressing his desire to be the 'Kohli of Indian badminton.'

This comparison was sparked by Sen's no-look reverse backhand shot against Indonesia's Jonatan Christie, which many fans likened to a six hit by Kohli in the T20 World Cup 2022.

"Why not, I mean, at the same time he has done a lot for Indian cricket and yes I want to be the Virat Kohli of badminton," stated Sen.

    Upcoming endeavors

    Sen's future plans and training

Following his Olympic journey, Sen is now preparing to train at Salzburg's Red Bull Athlete Performance Centre.

His coach Vimal Kumar emphasized the importance of improving fitness for the young shuttler to elevate his game further.

Sen will spend a week in Austria focusing on his fitness before returning to competitive tournaments in September, demonstrating his commitment toward achieving his goal of becoming the 'Virat Kohli of Indian badminton.'
