    What's the story

Indian captain Rohit Sharma on August 2 became the fifth Indian batter to complete 1,000 fours in ODI cricket.

Rohit attained the milestone in the first ODI versus Sri Lanka in Colombo.

He ended up scoring 58 off 47 balls with the help of seven fours and three sixes.

Here we look at the Indian batters with 1,000 or more ODI fours.

    #1

    Sachin Tendulkar - 2,016 fours

The highest run-getter in ODI history, Sachin Tendulkar is the only batter with over 1,600 fours in the format (2,016). He also clobbered a total of 195 sixes.

The Master Blaster played 463 games in his illustrious ODI career, accumulating a total of 18,426 runs at an average of 44.83.

He went on to register 49 hundreds and 96 fifties (200: 1).

    #2

    Virat Kohli - 1,296 fours

Having played 293 games, Virat Kohli has smashed 1,296 fours as he also owns 151 sixes.

Kohli is the third-highest run-scorer in ODI cricket, having slammed 13,872 runs.

His average of 58.53 is the best among batters with at least 2,500 runs.

Kohli also owns 72 half-centuries in ODI cricket besides 50 tons. No other player owns more ODI hundreds.

    #3

    Virender Sehwag - 1,132 fours

Virender Sehwag, who is credited to have redefined the opener's role, showed his prowess in 251 ODI matches.

He scored 8,273 runs at 35.05 with the help of 15 tons and 38 fifties.

His strike rate reads a sensational 104.33. Meanwhile, the former opener hammered 1,132 fours in his celebrated ODI career.

He also cleared the fence 136 times.

    #4

    Sourav Ganguly - 1,122 fours

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly is next on this list, having tallied 1,122 fours (190 sixes).

The batting genius went on to amass 11,363 runs from 311 ODIs at 41.02.

The tally includes 22 tons and 72 fifties. Ganguly's 183 in the 1999 Cricket World Cup is still the highest score by an Indian at the biggest stage.
