    All-round India demolish Bangladesh in 1st Test: Key stats

    What's the story

    India have thrashed Bangladesh in the Test series opener in Chennai.

    Local boy Ravichandran Ashwin starred with his all-round heroics, smoking a century and taking a fifer in the game.

    Notably, India posted 376/10 batting first before bundling out their opposition for 149. The hosts managed 287/4d in their next outing, setting a 515-run target for Bangladesh.

    The visitors were bundled out for 234.

    Summary

    Summary of the 1st Test

    India scored 376 in their 1st innings, riding on a century from Ashwin and a score of 86 from Ravindra Jadeja. In response, Jasprit Bumrah's four-fer saw Bangladesh fold for 149.

    India declared their second innings at 287/4 thanks to centurions Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant.

    Chasing a mammoth 515, Bangladesh fought well but eventually fell way short of the target.

    Jaiswal

    Jaiswal's rescuing knock on Day 1

    Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a fine 56 off 118 balls in the first innings, having scored nine boundaries. He could only score 10 runs in his next outing.

    As per ESPNcricinfo, the left-handed batter has raced to 1,094 runs in just 10 Tests at an incredible average of 64.35.

    His tally includes three tons, five half-centuries, and a double-ton.

    Jadeja

    21st Test fifty for Jadeja

    Jadeja missed out on his fifth Test ton as he was dismissed for 86 off 124 balls in the first innings (10 fours, 2 sixes).

    As per ESPNcricinfo, this was Jadeja's 21st Test fifty as his tally also includes four tons.

    He has raced to 3,122 Test runs at 36.72.

    234 of his runs have come against Bangladesh at 117 (50s: 3).

    Taskin

    Three-fer for Taskin

    As per ESPNcricinfo, Taskin Ahmed finished with 3/55 in 21 overs in the first innings.

    The 29-year-old, who made his Test debut in 2017, has now raced to 38 wickets in 15 Tests at a higher average of 45.23.

    Taskin, who has three four-fers under his belt, is yet to take a fifer.

    33 of his wickets have come in away games at 47.63.

    Mahmud

    2nd Test fifer for Mahmud

    Mahmud finished with 5/83 across 22.2 overs (first innings).

    Playing his fourth Test, he has raced to 19 wickets at 25.05.

    As per Cricbuzz, Mahmud became the second Bangladesh pacer to record a Test fifer against India.

    Overall, he is fifth from the nation to get this feat. He is also the first Bangladesh bowler to register a Test five-wicket haul in India.

    Ashwin 

    Sixth Test centuries for Ashwin 

    Earlier in the game, Ashwin scored a brilliant 113 off 133 balls with the help of 11 fours and 2 sixes.

    He has now raced to 3,422 Test runs at 26.94 as his tally includes six centuries and 14 fifties.

    This was his second 50-plus score against the Tigers as he has now raced to 270 wickets against them at 54.

    Record 

    Ashwin, Jadeja missed out on this record 

    As per ESPNcricinfo, Ashwin and Jadeja recorded India's highest seventh-wicket stand against Bangladesh in Tests (199).

    They, however, missed out on becoming just the fifth Indian pair to record a double-century stand against the Tigers in red-ball cricket.

    They would have joined Shikhar Dhawan-Murali Vijay, Gautam Gambhir-Rahul Dravid, Dravid-Sachin Tendulkar, and Virat Kohli-Ajinkya Rahane.

    Bumrah 

    Bumrah completes 400 international wickets 

    Bumrah etched his name in the annals of Indian cricket history by becoming the sixth Indian pacer to claim 400 international wickets.

    The pace merchant was the pick of the Indian bowlers in Bangladesh's first innings, claiming 4/50 in 11 overs. He has now raced to 402 wickets across 228 innings at 21.02.

    He overall became the 10th Indian bowler to get this feat.

    Stats 

    Here are Bumrah's Test numbers 

    Playing his 37th Test, Bumrah has raced to 164 wickets. As per ESPNcricinfo, Bumrah's current bowling average of 20.51 is the third-best among bowlers with 150 or more Test scalps.

    The Indian pacer owns 10 fifers in this format.

    This is his first Test against Bangladesh. The speedster has now completed 38 wickets across nine home Tests at 16.15.

    The tally includes two fifers.

    Pant 

    Sixth Test ton for Pant 

    Pant was dismissed for 109 off 128 balls in the second innings.

    As per ESPNcricinfo, he has now raced to 2,419 Test runs at 44.79.

    While this was his sixth Test ton, he has also smoked 11 fifties so far in his career.

    This was his second 50-plus score against Bangladesh as he has completed 296 runs against them at 59.20.

    Feat 

    Pant equals Dhoni's record 

    Pant has now gone par with the legendary MS Dhoni in terms of Indians with the most Test tons as a designated wicketkeeper-batter.

    Notably, no other Indian keeper has even four Test centuries as Wriddhiman Saha follows the suit with four centuries.

    Pant has also been dismissed on 90s six times, most for any keeper in Tests.

    Gill

    1,500 Test runs for Gill 

    Gill made an unbeaten on 119 off 176 balls in the second innings.

    With his eighth run, the youngster completed 1,500 (now 1,611) Test runs.

    While the Indian batter averages 37.46 in the format, his tally now includes five tons and six half-centuries.

    Meanwhile, this was Gill's second Test hundred against Bangladesh as he now has 276 runs against them at 55.20.

    Ashwin 

    Ashwin goes past Walsh 

    Ashwin finished with 6/88 in 21 overs in the final innings.

    Playing his 101st Test match, Ashwin has now raced to 522 scalps at an average of 23.7.

    As per ESPNcricinfo, he went past West Indies legend Courtney Walsh (519) to become the eighth-highest wicket-taker in this format.

    He owns 29 wickets against the Tigers at 25.27 (5W: 2).

    Feat 

    Joint-second-most Test fifers 

    This was Ashwin's 37th Test fifer as he broke the tie with New Zealand's Richard Hadlee.

    In terms of Test fifers, Ashwin is now only behind Sri Lanka legend Muthiah Muralidaran (67).

    He equaled Australia's Shane Warne (37) in this regard.

    With his final wicket, Ashwin also became the second Indian after Anil Kumble (953) to accomplish 750 international wickets.

    Do you know? 

    This was the fourth occasion of Ashwin recording a century and a five-wicket haul in the same Test.

    Only England's Ian Botham has accomplished this feat more times. No other all-rounder has achieved this double even thrce.

    As per Cricbuzz, Ashwin now own 99 Test wickets in the fourth innings, the most for any Indian as he went past Kumble (94).

    Jadeja 

    Jadeja one short of 300 Test wickets 

    Jadeja finished with 3/58 in 15.1 overs in the final innings.

    As per ESPNcricinfo, Jadeja has now raced to 299 wickets across 73 Tests, averaging 23.98.

    He has 13 fifers.

    Against Bangladesh, the left-arm spinner has scalped 11 scalps at 26.81. 218 of his scalps have come at home at 20.74.

    He is set to become the seventh Indian to complete 300 Test wickets.

    Shanto 

    Fourth Test fifty for Shanto 

    Shanto ended up scoring 82 off 127 balls in the final innings, having smoked eight fours and three sixes.

    As per ESPNcricinfo, Shanto has raced to 1,641 Test runs at 29.30 (100s: 5, 50s: 4).

    358 of his runs have come as a captain at 27.53 (50: 1, 100: 1). Against India, he has raced to 198 runs at 33 (50s: 2).
