Graeme Swann feels Kohli is modern-day Jesus Christ: Here's why

    What's the story

Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been in the news for his kind gestures in the ICC World Cup 2019.

On two separate instances, Kohli displayed sportsmanship and was acclaimed by many.

Former England spinner Graeme Swann is highly impressed with these gestures shown by the Indian skipper as he called him the modern day Jesus Christ.

    Here's more about it.

    Respect

Kohli earns respect of his critics

Kohli drew acclaim during India's tie against Australia, where he urged fans to cheer and support Steve Smith, instead of booing him.

In the next match against Pakistan, Kohli walked off thinking he had touched a Mohammad Amir delivery.

However, replays confirmed that he hadn't knicked the ball.

Both these acts of sportsmanship have touched the hearts of several fans.

    Quote

Honestly, he is a modern day Jesus: Swann

"Virat walked off and it turned out he didn't even hit it. So he is that honest, he has given himself out when he's even not! Honestly, he is a modern day Jesus," said Swann in his podcast, Swanny's Cricket Show.

    Batsmen

Swann always hated batsmen who did not walk off

Swann said that he hated batsmen who had knicked the ball and remained at the crease, letting umpires decide.

He further explained that in case the batsman had touched the ball, he is out. And, by just standing, he was cheating everyone.

"'Oh, I'm letting the umpire decide whether I have or not', you're still cheating. You're cheating yourself more than anything," opined Swann.

    Transformation

Swann happy the way Kohli is transcending

Swann expressed his satisfaction that India are in the safe hands of Kohli. He is also happy with the way Kohli is transcending.

Swann feels that he is becoming a role model for millions.

"Not only did he do the Steve Smith thing when he said 'stop booing, clap him', which was great because you know I hate the booing of people," concluded Swann.
