Harry Brook to captain England in ODI series against Australia
Harry Brook has been appointed as the captain of England's One Day International (ODI) team for the upcoming series against Australia. The announcement comes after regular white-ball skipper Jos Buttler was ruled out due to a calf injury, as revealed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). This will mark Brook's first stint as ODI captain, stepping in for Buttler during this crucial series. Here's more.
Brook's journey and previous leadership roles
Brook, a right-handed batter from Yorkshire, made his ODI cricket debut against South Africa in January last year. H has played 15 matches and scored 407 runs at 29.07. Despite only having four 40-plus scores in ODIs so far, Brook is no stranger to leadership roles. He captained the ICC Under-19 World Cup England team in 2018 and led Northern Superchargers in the Hundred this year.
Buttler's recurring calf injury raises concerns
Buttler, 34, also missed the ongoing three-match T20I series against Australia due to the same calf injury. His recurring calf issues have raised concerns as he previously missed most of a series against Sri Lanka in 2021 due to a tear. He was also ruled out of England's seven-match T20I tour to Pakistan the following year with a strain that briefly threatened his participation in the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Livingstone replaces Hull in England's ODI squad
In addition to Buttler's absence, the ECB announced that 20-year-old Josh Hull will also miss the series due to a quad injury. All-rounder Liam Livingstone has been named as his replacement. Livingstone's return follows his impressive performances in the first two T20Is where he took five wickets in six overs and scored 87 off 47 balls to win Friday night's game in Cardiff.
