    Arbaaz Khan confesses involvement in IPL betting

    Bollywood star Arbaaz Khan admitted he was involved in betting in the multi-billion cricket tournament IPL.

    Quoting sources, ANI reported, Khan placed bets in IPL last year and may have lost Rs. 2.75 crores.

    Khan was made to sit with a bookie Sonu Jalan during the investigation. Jalan and Khan are said to have known each other for no less than five years.

    The connection between Khan and Jalan

    On May 15, the AEC busted the racket and arrested Jalan, who is one of the top bookies of the country. It was during the investigation that a connection between Jalan and Khan surfaced, revealed Pradeep Sharma, Senior Inspector and head of the AEC.

    A senior official also said Jalan mentioned influential personalities, along with Pakistani politician, who bet big money in the IPL.

    After betting, Jalan apparently blackmailed Arbaaz Khan

    The police seized Jalan's personal diary, and a line phone. The kingpin's statements were supported by the notes in his diary.

    It is alleged Arbaaz Khan placed bets during one of the previous seasons of IPL through Jalan, who used the name 'Junior Calcutta'.

    "Apparently, Khan was blackmailed into paying crores, the threat being that his gambling habit would be exposed," an official said.

    Reportedly, Arbaaz Khan may have paid Rs. 3 crore to Jalan. "Nothing concrete can be said on this as of now. We need to corroborate it with evidence and statements of those who are linked with the racket," said Sharma.
