    What's the story

    Steve Smith ended with a score of 141 in the first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle International Stadium, Galle.

    Australia resumed Day 2 on on 330/2 after 81.1 overs were possible yesterday.

    Smith was unbeaten on 104 and was alongside Usman Khawaja (147*).

    After a strong start in the morning, Smith fell prey to Jeffrey Vandersay in the 100th over of their innings.

    Knock

    A defiant knock from Smith

    Alongside Khawaja, Smith deflated the Sri Lankan bowlers on Day 1.

    Day 2 continued in the same vein as both players cashed on. After wa watchful first few overs, Khawaja hit the first four of the day right after crossing 150.

    Smith also freed his arms thereafter as runs started to flow.

    However, Vandersay brought joy for SL, trapping Smith LBW.

    Khawaja and Smith ended with a 266-run partnership. It's now the 2nd-highest stand in Sri Lanka-Australia Tests (any wicket). Travis Head and Joe Burns' 308-run stand in Canberra (4th wicket) remains the highest tally.

    Smith averages 56.33 in Tests

    Smith's 141 was laced with 12 fours and two sixes. He consumed 251 balls.

    He has raced to 10,140 runs in Tests at 56.33. On Wednesday, Smith clocked his 35th Test ton in addition to surpassing 10,000 runs.

    In six matches versus Sri Lanka, he has 539 runs at 59.88 (100s: 3, 50s: 1).

    As per ESPNcricinfo, Smith owns 4,696 runs in away Tests.
