Chasing 219 runs at Saxton Oval, Nelson, Mitchell came in when NZ were 112/3 in the 11th over.
He started by scoring 10 runs off 8 balls before opening up. The 15th over of NZ's innings saw Mitchell hammer Charith Asalanka for four consecutive sixes.
His six-hitting show entertained the crowd.
However, in the 17th over, Mitchell was dismissed by spinner Wanindu Hasaranga.
