Apple's 2018 iPhone could be cheaper than iPhone X

    What's the story

According to reports, Apple's 2018 iPhone line-up consists of a 5.8-inch OLED display iPhone, a larger 6.5-inch OLED display iPhone, and a more affordable 6.1-inch LCD display iPhone.

Since the $1000 iPhone X did not meet expected sales targets, Apple will reportedly push the LCD model over the OLED versions, which will most probably be cheaper than the iPhone X.

    Details

Apple shifting production in favor of the LCD model

This means that reports about Apple soon going OLED-only should be taken with a pinch of salt. Experts suggest that Apple will not move to OLED-only displays before 2020.

The company hopes the new LCD iPhone to constitute for the majority of its sales this year.

While each OLED screen costs apple over $100, an LCD costs the company about $40.

    Information

Upcoming iPhone to replace Lightning port with USB-C?

Some reports are claiming that Apple might exchange the Lightning port on its iPhones for a USB-C. However, some are even speculating that after killing the headphone jack, Apple will now altogether remove the Lightning port, thus making its iPhones truly cord-free.

    Design

All three phones will have an edge-to-edge infinity display

Design-wise, all three iPhones will feature an edge-to-edge infinity display with almost non-existent bezels and a notch, pretty similar to iPhone X.

While the two expensive OLED models will come with stainless steel frames and dual-lens cameras, the more affordable 6.1-inch iPhone is expected to have an aluminum frame and single-lens camera to keep the price low.

    Features

All the three iPhones will support Face ID

All the three iPhones scheduled for launch in 2018 will feature TrueDepth cameras which support Face ID, thereby putting an official end to Apple's Home button and Touch ID fingerprint sensor.

Further, the 6.1-inch iPhone, owing to its lower price tag, might not be equipped with wireless charging, and the display might not support 3D Touch.

The 6.5-inch iPhone could include dual-SIM support.

    Specs

New processors and better RAM are expected

All the three iPhones are expected to come with Apple's new A12 processors, as well as improved LTE chips from Qualcomm and Intel for faster LTE speeds.

Additionally, the OLED iPhones are also expected to come with 4GB RAM, while the LCD iPhone is expected to sport 3GB RAM.

Notably, the 6.5-inch iPhone is expected to come with a heavy-duty battery.
