    What's the story

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has decided to replace Redmi Note 7 with its recently launched Redmi Note 7S.

In response to a tweet, Xiaomi's executive Raghu Reddy confirmed that Redmi Note 7 would be phased out.

The move makes sense because both the phones share the same specifications and design; the only difference lies in their camera sensors.

    Here are the details.

    Design and Display

Redmi Note 7S at a glance

In terms of looks, Xiaomi Redmi Note 7S looks identical to Redmi Note 7. It features a waterdrop notched display upfront while the back houses a dual rear camera array along with a fingerprint sensor.

Moreover, the phone has a 6.3-inch full HD+ display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio, Gorilla Glass 5 protection on both sides, and a P2i splash-resistant coating.

For the shutterbugs and selfie lovers

In terms of optics, the Redmi Note 7S houses a dual rear camera setup comprising a 48MP (f/1.8) primary camera and a 5MP (f/2.2) depth sensor in comparison to Redmi Note 7's 12MP+2MP dual rear camera setup.

Up front, both the phones offer a 13MP (f/2.0) selfie snapper with support for AI Portrait mode and AI Face unlock.

    Internals

    Under the hood

Performance wise, both Redmi Note 7 and Note 7S are fueled by Snapdragon 660 chipset, paired with 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of internal storage (expandable upto 256GB).

Both the phones are backed by a 4,000mAh battery and run Android Pie-based MIUI 10.

Lastly, they offer all the standard sensors and connectivity options including Dual-SIMs (nano), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB Type-C port.

    How much?

    Pricing and Availability

As far as pricing is concerned, Redmi Note 7S costs Rs. 1,000 more than Note 7. It starts at Rs. 10,999 for the 3GB/32GB model while the 4GB/64GB variant is priced at Rs. 12,999.

It will go on sale on May 23 via Flipkart, Mi.com, and Mi Home stores.

Considering the two phones are almost identical, it is logical to phase out Note 7.
