    What's the story

At the ongoing Mobile World Congress 2019, ZTE-owned Nubia has launched, what could be, the world's first wearable phone.

Thanks to its 4-inch flexible OLED display, the Nubia Alpha looks like a phone that can be wrapped around the wrist to track fitness, click photos, make calls and even send messages.

However, internally, this one-of-a-kind wearable is pretty much a smartwatch.

    Here's our roundup.

    Design & Display

    Nubia Alpha: At a glance

Nubia Alpha sports a flexible OLED display that allows the device to boast of a wearable form factor while the 4-inch size (960x192 pixels resolution), makes it one of the largest displays ever on a smartwatch.

The wearable also has stainless steel bands, water-resistant built quality, a 5MP camera, and all the usual sensors you'd find on a smartwatch including the heart rate sensor.

    Internals

    Under the hood

The Nubia Alpha is powered by a Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset, paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage.

Under the hood, the device also packs a 500mAh battery that offers battery life of up to two days.

Further, it comes with an eSIM with 4G LTE support, built-in speaker and microphone, as well as a virtual T9 keyboard for typing.

    Features

Nubia Alpha: A smartwatch cum smartphone

Thanks to the embedded SIM and 4G connectivity, the Nubia Alpha offers several functions of a standard smartphone such as calling and texting.

The device also functions as a fitness tracker, allowing you to monitor heart rate and track calories among other health parameters.

Moreover, Alpha runs a custom OS with support for air gestures that let you navigate by waving fingers over it.

    Coming soon

    Pricing and availability

The Nubia Alpha Bluetooth model with Black bracelet will be available in Europe and North America in April for EUR 449 (approx. Rs. 36,200).

The eSIM variant, priced at EUR 549 (approx. Rs. 44,300), will be available in the aforementioned regions in the third quarter of 2019.

Lastly, the 18K Gold variant of the eSIM model is priced at EUR 649 (approx. Rs. 52,400).
