Now, you can download premium content from Hotstar: Here's how
What's the story
India's popular streaming service Hotstar is finally letting users download premium content.
The platform, which launched more than two years ago, had been offering offline viewing, but only for a small number of old and regional shows.
Now, with its latest update, the app has given an option to download most, if not all, premium shows and movies.

Latest Hotstar update adds 'Download' button
The latest update of Hotstar for iOS and Android has added a download button under popular TV shows and movies.
When tapped, this option asks the user to select content quality (anything between 'Low' to 'full HD') before it starts the download, Gadgets360 reported.
Then, it can be viewed offline or deleted from the downloads section of the app.
Content availability
Which shows/movies can now be downloaded?
You can download a range of titles, including shows like Game of Thrones, F.R.I.E.N.D.S, and The Big Bang Theory.
In the movies' section, you can download The Shape of Water, The Greatest Showman, Maze Runner: Death Cure, Red Sparrow, and more.
However, do note the app still doesn't allow downloads for Star Wars and Marvel movies as well as many HBO and CW titles.

But, there are some restrictions
The addition of the download option is good, but don't forget that premium content can only be downloaded once. Also, the content will expire after 7 days of download or 48 hours after you start watching.
Screen support
Hotstar is also bringing support for 18:9 screens
The same update has also added support for screens with 18:9 aspect ratio, which comes with most phones these days.
It will further enhance the viewing experience, helping Hotstar take on the likes of Amazon Prime Video and Netflix in the content streaming arena.
