Google Pixel 3 v/s iPhone Xs: Which is better?

    What's the story

Google has unveiled its latest Pixel phones - the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL - with bigger screens, top-tier specs, and better cameras.

Interestingly, Apple also recently unveiled its most-powerful and most-expensive iPhones yet - the iPhone Xs and the iPhone Xs Max.

But which one is worth your money?

Here's our specifications-wise comparison to help you pick wisely.

    Design

    At a glance

As far as design in concerned, iPhone Xs easily wins the battle with its edge-to-edge bezel-less display and the trend-setting notch.

On the other hand, Pixel 3 has a traditional rectangular display with thick (considering 2018 standards) top and bottom bezels, while Pixel 3 XL has an odd-looking notched display and a chunky chin.

Notably, both the flagships are IP68 rated.

    Winner: iPhone Xs

    Display

    All about the screen

The Pixel 3 features a 5.5-inch full-HD+ OLED display with 443ppi pixel density and 18:9 aspect ratio.

The contender, iPhone Xs features a 5.8-inch Super Retina True Tone OLED display with 458ppi pixel density, 2436 x 1125 resolution and a taller aspect ratio of 19.5:9

Winner: iPhone Xs for its taller and sharper display.

    Primary Camera

    For the shutterbugs

    Pixel 3 sports a single 12.2-MP (f/1.8) sensor with dual-pixel technology, OIS+EIS, in-built spectral and flicker sensor.

On the other end, iPhone Xs gets a 12-megapixel (f/1.8) wide-angle lens, paired with a 12-megapixel (f/2.4) telephoto lens, OIS and 2x optical zoom.

While specs-wise iPhone Xs has an edge, Pixel 3 uses software modifications and AI that make it offer better photos.

    Winner: Pixel 3

    Selfie Camera

    For the love of selfies

In the selfie game, Google has raised the bar for its competitors. The Pixel 3 comes with a dual front-camera setup comprising an 8-MP (f/1.8) wide-angle camera and an 8-MP (f/2.2) telephoto camera.

The iPhone Xs retains iPhone X's same 7MP TrueDepth RGB camera with f/2.2 aperture.

    Winner: Google Pixel 3.

    Internals

    All the important stuff

The Pixel 3 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, paired with Adreno 630 GPU, Pixel Visual Core Titan M security chip, 4GB RAM and 64GB/128GB storage.

The iPhone Xs is powered by the 7nm A12 Bionic chip, paired with an Apple-designed Neural Engine and 64GB/256GB/512GB storage options.

Winner: iPhone Xs. But you wouldn't really notice a difference in performance on Pixel 3.

    Sensors & Software

    Lifeblood of your smartphone

Though both the phones pack a standard array of sensors, they have one key difference here - iPhone Xs lacks a fingerprint sensor but has 3D face scanning unlock whereas Pixel 3 has a traditional, reliable rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

In terms of software, the Pixel 3 runs Android Pie out of the box while iPhone Xs comes with iOS 12.

    Winner: You decide.

    Battery & Connectivity

    Staying connected

In terms of connectivity, both the phones are similar but the key differences of dual-SIM support (eSIM+Physical SIM) and Gigabit LTE give iPhone Xs an upper hand.

Further, Pixel 3 packs 2,915mAh battery with support for fast charging and Qi wireless charging whereas the iPhone Xs also offers a full-day battery life and supports wireless charging and fast charging.

    Winner: iPhone Xs.

    The key factor

    And, finally the pocket pinch

The iPhone Xs starts at Rs. 99,900 for the 64GB base variant. The mid-variant with 256GB storage is priced at Rs. 1,14,900 and the top-end 512GB storage model costs Rs. 1,34,900.

The Google Pixel 3 starts at Rs. 71,000 for the 64GB variant, goes up to Rs. 80,000 for the 128GB variant.

Notably, the price difference between the entry-level models is of Rs. 28,900.

    Our result

    How things stack up

Both these flagships are the most-powerful smartphones currently available.

The iPhone Xs offers a premium design and industry-leading processor whereas the Pixel 3 offers the purest Google experience with top-end specs, and best-in-class cameras.

If you are an Apple fanboy, the pick is easy.

But if you want a good flagship phone worth the money, Google Pixel 3 is a no-brainer.
