    What's the story

ElevenLabs, an AI-based start-up specializing in synthetic voice creation and editing tools, has announced the global launch of its Reader app in 32 languages.

The application, initially released in June for the US, UK, and Canada markets, allows users to convert any text content into audio.

This includes articles, PDF documents or e-books that can be listened to in various languages and voices.

    List

    What languages are supported?

The Reader app now supports languages such as Portuguese, Italian, Tamil, Spanish, French, Hindi, German, Japanese, Arabic, Korean, and Swedish.

This expansion is part of ElevenLabs's strategy to make its innovative text-to-speech technology accessible to a wider global audience.

The firm has also added hundreds of new voices to its library that are suitable for different languages.

    Company growth

ElevenLabs's journey to becoming a unicorn

Earlier this year, ElevenLabs achieved unicorn status after securing $80 million in funding from investors including Andreessen Horowitz.

The company offers an API that businesses can utilize for various applications such as dubbing or text-to-speech.

It powers voice interactions on the Rabbit r1 and provides text-to-speech features for AI-driven search engine Perplexity, as well as audio platforms PocketFM and KukuFM.

    App enhancements

Reader app's unique features and future plans

In a bid to enhance user experience, ElevenLabs has licensed the voices of renowned actors including Judy Garland, Sir Laurence Olivier, James Dean, and Burt Reynolds for its app.

The extended language support is powered by the company's Turbo v2.5 model which was launched last month.

This new model reduces latency in text-to-speech conversion and improves quality.

The company also plans to introduce additional features like offline support and sharing audio snippets in the future.
