    What's the story

    Congress President Rahul Gandhi declared assets worth over Rs. 15.88 crore on Thursday when he filed his nomination for Lok Sabha polls in Wayanad constituency of Kerala.

    In last parliamentary elections, Rahul declared his assets were worth Rs. 9.4 crore.

    Rahul added he doesn't own a car and has a total financial liability of Rs. 72 lakh from banks and other financial institutions.

    Here's how much Rahul's movable and immovable assets cost

    Rahul declared his movable assets are worth Rs. 5.8 crore and immovable assets cost Rs. 10.08 crore. This brings the worth of this total assets to Rs. 15.88 crore.

    He had Rs. 40,000 cash-in-hand and Rs. 17.93 lakh as deposits in various banks.

    The Congress chief added he has investments worth Rs. 5.19 crore in bonds. The assets also include 333.3 grams of gold.

    Rahul completed his Masters in 1995

    Rahul mentioned he completed his M.Phil (Development Studies) from Trinity College in 1995.

    He revealed there are five cases against him. While two cases have been filed in Maharashtra, one case each has been registered in Jharkhand, Assam and New Delhi.

    Rahul said his source of income was MP's salary, royalty income, rental income, interest from bonds, dividends and capital gain from mutual funds.

    Rahul's assets increased by 68% since 2014

    The 48-year-old owns inherited farm in Sultanpur in Delhi. He also owns two office spaces in Gurugram.

    In 2014, Rahul had declared assets worth approximately Rs. 9.4 crore. The movable assets were worth Rs. 8.07 crore and immovable assets worth Rs. 1.32 crore back then.

    Rahul had said he had Rs. 35,000 cash-in-hand and had deposited Rs. 9.5 lakh in various banks.

    Polls

    Rahul will contest from two seats this time

    This is the first time that Rahul will contest from two seats. In his traditional bastion Amethi, Rahul faces competition from Smriti Irani.

    The BJP leader and Union Minister had competed against him in 2014 as well but lost. The vote margin was a little over 1 lakh votes.

    In Wayanad, NDA has fielded Thushar Vellappally and CPI gave ticket to PP Suneer.

    Roadshow

    Rahul assured he won't speak against the Left

    After filing nomination from the Southern constituency, Rahul along with his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra held a roadshow.

    Rahul promised he won't utter a word against the Left. "I'm here not to fight Left parties and won't utter a word against them. They can criticize me but we are together fighting against the BJP," Rahul said.

    He later thanked Wayanad for the overwhelming love.
