    What's the story

BJP MP Nepal Singh got his foot in the mouth when talking about the recent attack on a CRPF camp in J&K's Pulwama. Five jawans died.

"Jawans in the army will obviously die. Is there any country where armymen don't die?" he asks the reporter.

When pressed further, he says, "Tell me about some device that will prevent such deaths, that will stop bullets."

"Ye to roz marenge Army mein, koi aisa desh hai jahan army ka aadmi na marta ho jhagde mein? Gaon mein bhi jhagda hota hai to ek na ek to ghaayal hoga hi! Koi aisi device batao, jisse aadmi na mare? Aisi cheez batao ki goli kaam na kare, use karwa dein" says BJP MP Nepal Singh pic.twitter.com/Tnb0gT0VKr

    Explanation

Singh apologizes, claims he was talking about something else

Defending his comments after they caused an uproar, Singh said, "I didn't insult the jawans. I am sad, I apologize, but I didn't say anything disrespectful."

Explaining his original statement, he said he was simply commenting on how scientists are working on a device that would save soldiers from bullets.

    Controversy

    MP's comments draw Twitterati's ire

Twitterati wasn't happy. "If you haven't said anything then why are you apologizing?" asked @MallickManoj, urging the PM to take action against "such nonsense politicians".

"What's wrong with BJP? Can't they control their own MPs? Our soldiers are dying fighting our enemies for us and our nation. Show some respect," said @amitmehra.

"Send this Nepal to Nepal right now!" posted @Superman_SANDHU.
