Alka Lamba questions Yogeshwar Dutt's parentage in ugly Twitter spat

    What's the story

Congress leader Alka Lamba and wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt got into an ugly Twitter spat on Monday.

After Lamba called Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders "illegitimate children" of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Dutt jumped in to insinuate that Lamba was an illegitimate child herself.

Lamba then doubled down to imply that Dutt is Prime Minister Narendra Modi's illegitimate son.

    Here's what happened.

    Context

    How did the fight begin?

Lamba, who is a former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA, tweeted on Sunday, "The Sangh (RSS) has nothing to do with politics. But the truth is that all BJP leaders are illegitimate children of the Sangh."

She had retweeted a photograph of PM Modi from his former days in the RSS.

To this, Dutt responded, "Your words reflect who is the illegitimate child here."

    Information

Your tweets reflect your upbringing: Dutt tweets at Lamba

Dutt went on to say that Lamba's tweet also reflects on her mindset and upbringing and called the Congress leader "mentally ill." Dutt had joined the BJP last year and unsuccessfully contested in the Haryana polls from the Baroda seat.

    Quote

Ask your mother who your father is: Lamba

Lamba then responded, "Ask your mother who your father is. Do you feel ashamed of uploading a DP (display picture) with your father?"

She added, "If your mother says that the man posing with you in your DP is your father, believe her because mothers never lie. You didn't get offended over nothing."

Dutt's cover photo is a picture of him with PM Modi.

'Did Jashodaben light lamps?' Lamba later tweeted

In other tweets, Lamba wrote, "Is anyone asking whether the honorable Jashodaben Modi (the PM's estranged wife) lit lamps? Or is she still in the dark—deceived?"

She also tweeted, "Andh bhakts (blind devotees), there's still time to fight against COVID-19. You can fight with me some other time."

She said the attitude of BJP leaders and followers towards women is well known.

    Dutt’s response

'Can't expect respect from someone who uses such language'

Dutt later tweeted, "When someone who uses such vulgar language on a public forum does not care about their own dignity, how could I expect them to respect me, my mother, and the honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi?"

He added, "There is some loss to being a man in this country. Now you will also play the 'woman card.'"
