Maharashtra couple arrested for trying to sell four-month-old son

What's the story

Police arrested a married couple from Thane district when they were trying to sell their four-month-old son for Rs. 6 lakh to a woman representative of an Udaipur-based orphanage.

The couple already had a son and a daughter. They were trying to sell their third child to needy people.

The duo was booked under various sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Trap

Police laid a trap at a restaurant

Atul Kulkarni, ASP, Bhayandar, said, police laid a trap at a restaurant in Meera-Bhayandar area and took the couple into custody along with the representative of the orphanage.

"The couple had got in touch with the woman who works for Radhika Child Care in Udaipur and wanted to sell the baby to the needy person," he said.

Further investigations in the case are ongoing.
