    Thousands of Mumbai local train commuters had to face inconvenience as rail traffic was affected due to a major fire that broke out in one of the coaches of a local train at Dadar Railway Station on Friday.

    The fire that broke out around 9.24 pm was doused within an hour and no commuters were injured, said the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's Disaster Management unit.

    Fire caused due to brake binding: Central Railway spokesperson

    As said by a Central Railway spokesperson, the fire began underneath one of the coaches most possibly due to brake binding, where the brake gets jammed, leading to friction, fire, and smoke.

    He further added that the movement of three trains running towards the suburbs was affected due to the incident and had to be diverted to the fast line between Byculla and Kurla.

    To douse the fire, four fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Chief fire officer Rahangdale declared it as a level II fire and said, "Fire was confined to electrical wires and installations as well as wooden seats of one coach."

    Chief public relations officer of Central Railway, Sunil Udasi said the coach which caught fire was a rake made by BHEL.
