Navratri 2019: Here's how you can stay healthy while fasting

    What's the story

The nine-day Navratri festivities have begun.

Navratri is special in the sense that it sets into motion a plethora of festivals to come and also brings along the holy fasting ritual.

Hence, the excitement is rather natural.

But we don't want you to either overindulge or starve - maintaining the right balance is the key.

Here's how you can stay healthy during Navratri fasting.

    #1

Eat enough and at regular intervals

During Navratri, while some people tend to eat a lot of festive delicacies and sweets, others tend to starve themselves in the name of fasting.

The truth is that none of these is desirable.

Overeating may lead to digestive issues and even weight gain, while eating too less can cause weakness, fatigue and headaches.

So, eat enough healthy food and at regular intervals.

    #2

Stay hydrated: It will flush out toxins, improve digestion

Staying aptly hydrated is extremely important, and more so while you are fasting.

It will help in proper functioning of your bodily systems.

Further, it will help flush out toxins and improve digestion.

We suggest you to aim for 8-12 glasses of water throughout the day.

And it's not just about water, try having more and more fruit and vegetable juices to stay hydrated.

    #3,4

Avoid excess sugar and packaged food

Sugary food: Those sweets might seem irresistible during the festive season, but you'd have to pull the brakes as excess of them can be bad for health and could lead to weight gain.

Packaged food: There are a lot of packaged 'vrat friendly' options such as chips and namkeens available in the market, but they go through a lot of processing. Hence, avoid them.

    #5,6

Avoid exertion; Get plenty of rest

Avoid exertion: All the festive activity, doubled with fasting is bound to make you tired. So, try not to put extra load on your body, in order to stay fit and healthy.

Sleep well: Your body needs plenty of rest to facilitate the fasting process. So, make sure to get at least 7-8 hours of undisturbed night-time rest to stay healthy.

    Happy Navratri 2019!
