How to keep your pets safe during cold weather

    What's the story

    The winter is here!

Whether your pet loves the cold season or not, either way you need to take extra care of them during this time of the year.

Yes, despite their layer of fur, the pets are as susceptible to falling sick during winters as ourselves.

However, don't fret, here are six tips to help keep your pets safe from the cold.

    #1

    Keep your pet indoors

Your doggy might love to chill outside, but it's better to keep it restricted to the home during the cold weather, in order to prevent risk of cold, flu, or frostbite.

However, do take it out for some exercise or play, when the temperatures are warmer or it's a sunny day.

If it just refuses to go out, keep it active indoors.

    Information

    #2: Check their paws

After walks in the snow, examine your pet's paws as soon as you return home. Check their paw pads for cracks, injury or bleeding, as they may cause difficulty in walking. Also, keep the fur between your pet's paws trimmed to prevent ice/snow accumulation.

Give your pet cozy bedding; Protect it from heat sources

Bedding: Getting your pet a warm and comfortable bedding will help keep them protected during winters. Consider buying a raised bed to avoid cold tiles/concrete floor, some blankets, and a heated pet bed.

Heat sources: Of course, your pet will tend to go near the heater or the fireplace, but make sure it doesn't snuggle too close, so as to avoid risk of burns.

Mind your pet's diet; Keep them well moisturized

Healthy diet: Some owners tend to overfeed their pooches/cats during winters. Don't do that! Give it a healthy diet, but in controlled portions. Also, always keep it well hydrated.

Moisturization: The cold weather could mess up your pet's skin health. So, regularly apply a good-quality, natural moisturizer to prevent risk of dryness, peeling, and cracks.
