    What's the story

MP Vijay Kumar is an illustrious Chartered Accountant who needs no introduction. He is popular among CA students across the country for his books on various finance/accounting subjects.

Kumar, Chief Financial Officer at Sify Technologies, also has a huge passion for teaching. He has been tutoring CA aspirants in Chennai for over 21 years and has helped thousands achieve their dreams.

    Here's more.

    About

Kumar is a Council Member of the ICAI

Apart from being the CFO at Sify Technologies, Kumar is also a Council Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) itself. The 49-year-old is also a Member of SEBI Committee on Disclosures in Accounting.

Kumar, who believes that becoming a CA has changed his life, wants to give back to the profession by helping aspiring young minds pursue their CA dreams.

    Dedication

Kumar has tutored more than 75,000 aspirants so far

Kumar tutors young CA aspirants in Accounting and Finance Law at Chennai's Prime Academy near Mylapore Tank.

His day starts as early as 4:00am; he reaches the institute by 5:45am and goes to office by 9:00am, according to YourStory.

Apart from accounting/finance lessons, his classes help students learn some life lessons too. Over the last 21 years, Kumar has tutored more than 75,000 aspirants.

    Motivation

On what keeps him motivated and inspired to help students

"I believe students come to not only learn and spend time on the subject. Their learning is more effective from our conduct rather than what we say," Kumar told YourStory.

"Their passion to study and pursue the dream keeps me motivated and inspired. I would help them in every way possible—be it helping students from difficult financial backgrounds or...non-English-medium background at school," he added.

    Making a difference

The ability to make difference and help students pursue dreams

"The ability to make a difference and help students pursue their dreams motivated me to dedicate more time to teaching," said Kumar.

"Most...students who were pursuing the course came from difficult financial backgrounds. And when you are able to help them in their goal of becoming a CA, it makes a difference to their life, their family, and the next generation," he added.

    Teaching

Studying is all about practical application of knowledge, says

One of the most interesting things about Kumar's classes is that his lesson plans aren't based on textbooks because he shares his own work experiences and real case studies with students. Also, he doesn't use the blackboard for teaching.

According to him, studying is "all about practical application of knowledge" and one should focus on learning for career rather than having an examination-focused approach.

    Information

Kumar received several prestigious awards and honors

Notably, Kumar was presented the Capital Foundation National Award by former President Pranab Mukherjee for his outstanding contribution and work in the CA industry in 2017. He also featured on the Certified Institute of Management Accountants' "100 Most Influential CFOs of India" list in 2015.
